Civil 3D 2012 fatal errors when 3d Objects are selected or manipulated

I just recently installed Civil 3D 2012 on a laptop and it has been unable to manipulate any existing drawings that have 3d objects in them (that were created with Civil 3D 2012) without crashing within 30-90 seconds of opening the drawings.

I have installed all of the service packs.

I can still open and manipulate the drawings on my old laptop in 2012 without trouble.

I used a trial version of Civil 3D 2015 for a full day on my new laptop before installing 2012 and being unable to open drawings. Now I cannot open the drawings and manipulate them in the trial version of 2015, either.

How do I go about diagnosing the cause of my trouble?

The laptop that I am attempting to run 2012 on is a 64-bit machine with 8 GB of RAM, and an Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU with the standard graphics card that came with that.

Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.

This sounds like a video card / drivers problem

Is there a way to isolate that as the problem? Or to tune Civil 3D so that it has the best chance of running on the laptop?
