Civil 3D 2008 Bug - VTENABLE System Variable

Has anyone else noticed that the VTENABLE system variable doesn't hold its status in Civil 3D? No matter what you do, it gets reset to "0" whenever you open a drawing.

Really annoying.

I first noticed it in Civil 3D 2007. Three service packs and one release later, it's still not fixed. I guess I'm the only guy in the world who *likes* using view transitions.

You're the first one I've heard of. 😉

Seriously, though, I do a know of a few people I've seen with it turned on
in '07 and they've never complained about it getting turned off. Do you
have any lisps, etc., loading along with Civil3D?

Nope. Nothing special. I've reproduced it on at least a dozen machines with clean installs.

I would hazard to guess that the people that you see with it turned on are the ones using customization. I imagine setting some kind of startup LISP would "fix" it, but I've been too lazy and I use too many different machines to keep track.

I'll try verifying what I 'think' I've seen.......I'll repost if I find out
anything useful.

Verifying the bug is easy.

1. Type "VTENABLE" and set it to "1".
2. Close Civil 3D.
3. Open Civil 3D.
4. Type "VTENABLE" and see that it has been set back to "0".

This has been a problem since Civil 3D 2007 was first released. The value stays if you are using Civil 3D 2006. The value also stays if you try doing this in vanilla AutoCAD 2006, 2007, or 2008.

To all, I just confirm that Mike is right, this functionality seems to be present in C3D 2008 regardless of startup files. The acad2008 and acad2008doc lisp routines have no mention of vtenable, so it's not getting set there. I have several stations that are installed "out of the box" and the open command resets vtenable every time.
