Civil 2010 (not 3D) users and sid files

We have some folks using Civil 2010 while the rest of us are using Civil 3D 2010. When I bring in .sid files, I toggle the task-based geospatial to insert the sid image. Our Civil 2010 users don't have that workspace, so is it even possible for them to bring in .sid files, especially coordinately correct?

They can use Raster Design to do it.

We don't have Raster Design. I had to install Raster Design Object Enabler on mine and there's to be able to view Sid files. Are they SOL without Raster?

Correct. Civil does not have Map. They would need Raster Design as a
substitute.

Assuming you have SDW (SID World Files) to accompany them, your Civil
users could consider a low cost add-on (MapWorks Base) that would allow
them to place SID images (requiring only the RDOE) as well as providing
a lot of other functionality they might be missing from Map, such as
importing Shape files, etc.

Details at http://www.dotsoft.com/mapworks.htm.

LizardTech provides a free utility to make SDW files. If your
interested in a 21-day eval, email me at dotson [at] dotsoft [dot] com.

Yes, .sdw files accompany the .sid. They would also need to work with shape files occasionly as we have some tax maps in .shp format. Thanks for the info.

Wait until 2011. I heard that Autocad is dropping Civil only and giving 3D to all current Civil users. Anyone else hear of this?
