CANT RECOVER FILE

Good afternoon,

One of our customers cant recover or open this file, if one run the recover command the file size is 3k and not workable.

Do the Autodesk support team have a tool to maybe try and look at this, as the customer also cant find bak file on the system.

Best Regards,

Andre

Hi,

>> One of our customers cant recover or open this file

Have your customer knowledge about BAK-files? If not then describe it to him that the chance to get a previous state of the project does not get lost!

Recovered as best as I could: you'll have to load again the 2 two missing XREF (Road Grids, 2011-10-13 vw building footprint).

Thanks Antonio,

Looks much better than my attempt, did you open the file in Civil 3D as I see its DXF format and all the Civil 3D objects are missing and all 2D.  🙂

Thanks for the help.

Best Regards,

Andre

I know it's hard to believe, but we don't have any magic tools that will open any file. Literally everything that we have is what is available to the general public. We do have a guide for troubleshooting corrupt drawings, which can be found here.

One tool I've used in the past where other methods have failed is Partial Open. I've done a Partial Open and opened the drawing Layer by Layer. If the problem is due damaged entities you may be able to recover all but one or two layers. INDEXCTL must be set to 2 of 3 for this to work.

I haven't used this method on a drawing with Civil 3D entities in it. So I can't say how this will work with them.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies and links, I tried the partialopen (set indexctl to 2 and 3), recover and recoverall, but no luck.

I cant search for the auto save file as this is for customer and most of the companies here closed for holidays.

If one try one of those commands it just crashes, recovers up to point then crash the software.

I also cant upload file because its too big 3MB, limit is 1.5MB.

Thanks,

Andre

Sorry I wasn't completely clear.  INDEXCTL must be set before the problem happened. IOW It has to be what you usually have as the default.
