We are running C3D 2014. I created a surface and called it OG. I had to add more points so I just deleted the original surface and went ahead and created a new one. Now when I try to name the new surface "OG" I get a message saying that it already exits? Although there is only one surface in the prospector (the new one I created), I cannot name it OG, it defaults to OG (1). There were no alignments or piping networks or anything associated with the original surface I created. Turn on the surface tin and there is only one surface in the drawing. Also did a purge on the drawing but it still recognizes the original "OG" surface. Any ideas how to get rid of the original surface that the drawing is recognizing??

Have you exited out of C3D after deleting OG? That's the first thing I'd try.
If you post your dwg file, someone will take a look.

We did a save, closed the drawing and then reopened it. Same thing, it still recognizes the original OG surface? Will try closing the program altogether and see what happens.

Also, I just got to thinking about your original message and thought I'd offer a comment on the red portion above (for future knowledge). If your surface is built correctly, needing to add points to it should not require deleting and recreating it.
For example, we have a template that we use for surveys. It includes a number of point groups that are already predefined and as survey shots are added to the file, the points get added to their respective point groups automatically. One of these point groups is "Ground Points". There is also a surface already created in the template called "EG-1". It is set up to include the Point Group "Ground Points". So when we first create a file based on this template, there are no points in the file, all the Point Groups are empty and the surface is there but has no data.
As soon as the survey data is imported, we have points and as long as those points include properly coded ground points, we have a usable surface. If we import MORE survey data that includes more Ground Points, the surface gets updated too.

Yes, I am aware of that. We ran an audit and found 45 errors. Closed the file, reopened and good to go! Thank you.
I'm pleased to hear that you got it resolved. Thanks for letting us know. Have a great day!

I ran across this issue (Surface Name (1)) again today. My instance occurred when I inserted the original design base file, with the surface (FG) defined in it, into a new drawing with updated standards/styles etc. After the insert, the surfaces all had a (1) after them including the defined Sites (Site 1|1). An audit found 277 errors, which were fixed, but the problem persisted. I also checked for and deleted alignments / profiles that were referencing the FG (1) surface. I only had 1 alignment that was straight, so nuking it was not a big deal. I eventually narrowed it down to the surface (FG) was being used/referenced within a volume model (Existing vs. FG). After deleting the volume model I could rename the surface.
Hopefully this helps someone else with similar headaches.
