Hey,
I'm Runing C3D 2014, It's just started running really slowly.. It takes me nearly an hour to create a quick profile from a polyline. Any suggestions on settings or do I have a bad install.. I`m sure my computer can handle this.
Alienware MX17
Intel(R) Core i7-4930MX CPU at 3.00 GHZ
16.00 GB Ram
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
Ge Force GTX 780M Graphics card with 4.0 GB RAM
When I open task manager it only shows my 4.2GB of RAM Being used while processing which doesn`t make sense because it takes flipping forever to load anything!! Any Help is appreciated!

Is this happening on multiple drawings or just on one? Not sure if it would cause the slowdown you noticed, but have you tried clearing out your temp files?

It is on one drawing, I have recreated it twice now and when I go to create a profile it takes close to 20 minutes, when I send the profile to .xml and then try to reload the file back in it takes hours... I have 14555 survey points over 430km along a pipeline Right of way I am trying to gather information for. I know the amount of information is high but is there anyway I can speed the process upÉ
Thanks!
Default temp folder location for Win7 is here:
(Note Appdata is a hidden folder by default in windows)
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\
Just delete everything it will let you while C3d is closed.

Sounds like quite the project.
What is the dwg file size?
and how is your workflow set up what's in this file besides the points?
Do you have multiple Civil 3d source dwgs, or is everything in one file?
Are data shortcuts being used?
I had a similar problem with one of my files. It turned out to be point groups (8 of them) that were in the file, but were from another project. I guess C3D was going through each group trying to reconnect or search for the points or something. Once I deleted the bad point groups, the file worked just fine. Hope this helps, best of luck.

To purge unused point groups, or anything like alignments or surfaces, you will need to go into Toolspace, (left button on home tab) Prospector tab -> go down to Point Groups and click on it and see if there are point groups listed that have yellow tags next to them. Select the group and right click and select delete. Same goes for profiles, alignments, and surfaces. Try updating the yellow tagged items first, but if they update they shouldn't be slowing the project down. If you can not delete the point groups, and they have a small triangle in the upper right corner, next to thier name, it is because the point group (or other entity) is being used in the definition of another object. Example here would be a point group can not be deleted because it is used in the definition for a surface. Or a surface can not be deleted because it is used in a profile.
All points will always be there as long as you have points in your file. You should be able to right click on this if it has a yellow tag and select Update from the drop down list.
Not aware of a method to erase points within a certain distance of each other without writing a LISP routine.
There is an easier and quicker way to get to the temp files, in the Windows 7 START menu's search box enter:
%temp%

Hi,
remember this post? : )
I'm also experiencing big time delays in performance in C3D, but not with one file, but all files. I am wondering if it is connected to point groups. I checked just now and sure enough there were point groups that couldn't be found because the data shortcut folder had defaulted to the last project used. this is a brand new drawing. can you describe how, or if?, i can have C3D set the working shortcut folder to the current drawing (project - i use a template to create the same fiolders in each project) when i start a new dwg? it never occurs to me to check the data shortcut folder on starting something. i want to not have to.
thanks

Unfortunately, as far as I know, you have to manually change to the correct project. It is a hastle and I forget to do it too. I still struggle with selecting the correct 'Project folder'.
I had a user with performance issues in Civil 3D 2014 and clearing the appdata/temp directory worked for us. Thanks!
