Hello,
I am using Civil 3D 2015.
select Data
I am exporting and importing shape files using the MapExport and MapImport commands. When exporting, I select linework manually and then select Data to select Properties under Select Attributes. When I import, I select Data and then select create object data. When I select a line that has been imported, the current layer is the name of the shape file and the data such as layer, etc is listed in properties. So how do I get the current layer of the imported linework to reflect the actual layer that the data is created with?

When importing a shape file that contains layer information. After setting it to create object data. Click on the Drawing Layer box. This opens the layer mapping dialog. Select "Use data field for layer name" and select the field that contains the layer name.

As Allen stated, select the field you selcted to export the layer to when you did the export. You did select to export the layer names when you exported right? Also be aware when you export to shp the field values may be shorter than the actual layer name in Civil3D. C-HYDR-CTCH-FPTH-TEXT may end up as C-HYDR-CTCH-FPTH.
