C3D 2013: What Programming Language used in the .fbk codes?

Hi all,

1) In the Tutorial of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013, I used the following .fbk codes (just listed the first several statements from survey-1.fbk file):

     UNIT FOOT DMS

     HORIZ ANGLE RIGHT

     PRISM CONSTANT 0

     PRISM OFFSET 0

     EDM OFFSET 0

     CR OFF

     ATMOS OFF

     COLLIMATION OFF

2)  From the book "AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 for Surveyors" published by SDC publications, I gain some undterstang about Unit FOOT DMS, HORIZ ANGLE RIGHT, PRISM CONSTANT 0, PRISM OFFSET 0, ATMOS OFF.  From the "Survey Commands" and "Survey Command Window" - User settings, Database settings, Batch file functionality, Output file functionality, Baselines functions, Intersection functions, Point information, Drawing zoom and pan functions, I can feel what AD, AZ, BS, NE, STN  are. But I don't know what  FC1, VA, B, H0.5, H-0.5, V-0.5 are!!??   Please kindly help and tell me what kind of Programming Language is used in the Survey .fbk file and what FC1, B, H0.5, H-0.5, V-0.5 mean.

Thanks in advance,

Scott Chang

It's survey command language and the syntax can be found in help.

I don't know what FC1 are, but the rest is not survey command language; they are linework codes, the definitions for which can be found in the Survey tab of the Prospector.

Thanks Steve and Matt for your nice responses.

Matt: do you get more from Chris and Rudy for VA, H0.5, H-0.5, etc.?

I have a new set of Codes listed below:

VA = Vertical Angle (although your FBK shows a setting for Zenith, so that should be double checked in the raw data file).

V- = Vertical Offset: code used to specify a relative vertical offset starting at the current point. A value must follow the Vertical offset code.

H- = Horizontal Offset: code used to specify a relative horizontal offset for creating a parallel figure starting at the current point, or transitioning to another offset if the active figure has a previous horizontal offset.

RT = Right Turn: code used with a line segment code to allow for additional vertices to be inserted perpendicular into the figure, or as extensions (straight offsets).

CLS = Close: code that indicates that an active figure is continued from its last vertex to the current point and closes the figure with a line segment back to the starting vertex for that figure.

For more information look up linework code sets and special codes in the help menu.

There are 3 numbers and a description,

First number is North, or might be East

Second number is East if first number is North, or North if first number is East

Third number is the elevation.

Hi Stacy and g_k50, Thanks for your nice responses.

I executed the SUV2-Figures-Linecodes.txt by doing Import => Import point file via PNEZD (comma delimited), and I got a nice result/dwg - see the 3 attached files.  However, I don't see the point styles of 50 points shown in the DWG.  How can I make all the point styles appeared for the 50 points in the Survey figures?

Please kindly help and advise me.

Many Thanks again,

Scott Chang

P. S.  I saw the "new" point numbers (10001, 1002, ...., 10050) along with the "old" point numbers (1, 2, ..., 50) in the lower part of Toolspace. (Amazing!!). Do you know how the "new" point numbers (10001, 10002, ..., 10050) were created by the instructions of the Codes of SUV2-Figures-LineCodes.txt?

You can right click on Points in the Survey Toolspace and choose Insert Into Drawing.  If you have already done this, you will need to check the top level point group to make sure it has styles selected for its points.  Right click on Point Groups in the Prospector tab of the toolspace and choose properties.  Select All_Points and use the arrows to move it to the top of the list.  Click OK.

Right Click on All_Points and choose Properties.  You should see options to set the point style and point label style.  Make sure these are set to a style that is visible.

It will be beneficial for you to go through the survey tutorials that are supplied with the software.  They will walk you through the steps needed to go from field data to a drawing.
