C3D 2008 Template - dwt's

Can anyone tell me if the civil 3D 2008 dwt's have more built in commands or any newer items that are not in the civil 3D 2006 dwt's? I am trying to rebuild a library of drawing templates, and I am not sure if I am better off starting with our 2006 dwts or the 2008. Any advice?

I remember seeing some issues posted here when using '06 templates in '07
(some ugly issues, that were hard to correct). I did not experience them
firsthand, as I rebuilt mine from scractch in '07.

Search a little more through this NG for more info

Hi,

If you are working with Civil 3D 2007 and/or 2008 - erase the R2006
templates. They will only create heartbreak.

As a general rule templates do not contain build in commands. If you are
unsure of what this means, it may be a good idea to do an "Introduction to
AutoCAD" training course.

You jumped 2 versions - there was a lot of stuff added for 2007, and a
few things added for 2008. Also, there were issues going from an '06
template to an '07 template. You'd likely be better off starting over.

You said "As a general rule templates do not contain build in commands." In the "dwt" settings under each style there is a drop down named commands. Are these not commands associated with the styles?

There are no commands built into the DWT's. What you are refering to are
Civil 3D's default settings when these commands are run from the menus.

For example, under the profile section you'll see a "command" for
CreateProfileByLayout. When you create a profile by layout (Profiles>
Create by Layout) these are the default styles and setting that are applied
for that new profile. This is a very powerful feature. You can assign
different styles and settings to profiles depending on which command is used
to create them. There is another one calle CreateProfileFromSurface. when
you create a surface profile you can set a default style for surface
profiles which is different from Layout profiles.
