c3d 2006 fatal errors

i keep getting fatal errors in my drawings. i'm working in c3d and land enabled acad 2006. when my co-worker does some modifications in my drawings using acad 2005, and i try to re-open them, i get lots of errors and finally a fatal error. i know he should be using 2006 and eventually he will but for now we are stuck. any suggestions?

What are the "lots of errors"?

usually when i open the drawing after it has been opened in 2005, acad tells my that it found "44 errors" and acad recommends running recover. whether i run recover or try to open the drawing, i get a fatal error. it opens just fine in 2005. it's happened on every drawing that has been opened 2005. even drawings that have xrefs from 2005 cause it to crash.

Have you tried applying all the updates, hotfixes and service packs? It worked for me.

2006 has been updated. do you mean for 2005?

we did all the hotfixes and updates for 2005 on my co-worker's machine. still no good. we've narrowed it down to c3d objects(contours and point groups). any drawing that has c3d objects causes a fatal error. we detached the xrefs that had c3d objects and the drawings opened fine.

I had major problems last summer with a firm that was running a mix of
vanilla AutoCAD 2005 alongside Civil 3D 2006.

My recommendation: don't open C3D 2006 drawings in AutoCAD 2005 if you want
to take them back to C3D 2006.

(yes i know theoretically they are the same drawing format, 04, but we had
BIG problems. horrible, unrecoverable problems)

You could have them save-as a copy of the drawing then you wblock in their
work...?

that's exactly the same problem we're having. were working around the problem though. i just copied out the c3d stuff into it's own drawing. thanks for the input.

I'm guessing that the problem lies in the way that the project data bases are handled. In older versions the data is project oriented and in the new versions it is oriented to the drawings themselves. Under the files menu are options for import and export to and from older versions. LandXML might also provide a better pathway for exchanging data between the two. I understand that Land Desktop is only included in the newer Civil 3D versions to help in the transition and will no longer be available in the coming years.
