Brain Teaser Challenge - Can't see Objects in Drawing

I have a drawing that will not display LDT objects. I have been playing with this for the last couple of hours and I have figured out what sequence of events causes this but I do not know why.

If I start a new drawing with our company drawing template then insert a layout from our title block template I can no longer see new LDT objects that xrefed, inserted or created in the drawing. The layout was inserted using the LAYOUT command and the T option.

I was able to "fix" our drawing template by creating a new one from acad.dwt and updating the settings using the express tool sysvdlg. I compared the variables between the two templates and saw nothing that would cause this.

If anyone is daring enough to dive into this I would love to know what is causing it. I submitted this to subscription support also.

The attached zip file contains the following:
Cant see LDT Objects.dwg - drawing containing 110 contours and 972 AECC_Points that cannot be seen
JR Acad 2009.dwt - original drawing template used to create the new drawing
Title Block.dwt - contains the layout that was inserted into the new drawing created from JR Acad 2009.dwt
JR Acad 2009a.dwt - new template created from acad.dwt and changed sysvars to company settings
JR Acad 2009 vs JR Acad 2009a.pdf - file showing differences between old and new acad templates.
3964900EC.dwg - drawing containing 110 contour objects and one line to use for testing.

To recreate the issue as we original saw it:
Create a new drawing using JR Acad 2009.dwt as the template.
Using the LAYOUT command and T option insert the layout from Title Block.dwt.
Xref 3964900EC.dwg.
Zoom extents.

You should only see the line from the 3964900EC drawing and no contours.

Have fun with this one, if you dare. I will post back here with any response from Subscription Support.

I had to break Zip file into two pieces.

I do believe there have been issues in past releases with importing layouts
like. It has worked in some versions and not in all.

An easy work around is to save the layout as a separate file & insert it as
a block to the new dwg's layout tab(s).

You can also just add it to your template so it can be copied or deleted as
required in every dwg.

Thanks for the suggestions John.

We have had our title blocks in a template and inserted them via layouts since the 2002 version and have not had issues until now. We have over 120 title blocks, about 20 for each of 6 offices. We have one title block template for each location. The Title Block template I posted was just a sample. I am hoping I can continue to keep them organized the way they are now instead of breaking them up into individual drawings.

Since I fixed the drawing template new drawings will be fine. It's the hundred or so drawings we created since the drawing template got "broke" that I'm worried about. That's why I was hoping someone could figure out what in the drawing is causing it so I can fix them.

Jeff,

Have you tried inserting the layouts via design center? Just a thought.

Hi Brian,

I had not tried DC prior to you suggesting it. If I import the layout using DC I do not have this problem. I can see the xrefed LDT objects.

This is looking more like a bug then a drawing corruption issue.

I can't say I have your exact issue, but I can say that IMHO there is a
bug with that type of layout insert. I have a couple of drawing sets
created that way and its been hit and miss over time with errors,
crashes, recover warnings, and other odd things that aren't 100%
explainable.

So here's the low down.

This problem does not occur if I import the layout using design center.
This problem does not occur in 2010.
Subscription support looked at it and could not figure out what was causing the problem or how to fix the drawings that were affected.
We did determine that wblocking the aec objects or wblocking the "entire drawing" created a new drawing where the objects were visible.
