boundary closure

to create a parcel in civil 3d i have to have a closed polyline....obviously it closes and nothing in the parcels functionality will help me

how do i check for closure with a traverse or existing boundary? is something in the survey toolspace?

map menu, tools, drawing cleanup might do it.

You don't have to have a closed polyline or bpoly. As Dave has suggested the Map Cleanup tools do a good job. Generally speaking if you start at extend undershoots and then progressively work up the remainder to the tool list with your required tolerences the result seems to be pretty good.

Polylines are a bad idea, they create duplicate parcel segments on common boundaries, this makes Civil3D CRASH.

Look up Dana's parcel creation rules on www.Civil3D.com. Without those I would have abandoned Civil3D a while back.

I think you guys are missing the boat. He wants to know how to get an
"error of closure", since you have to have a closed parcel to work, it is
somewhat a futile task in "Silver 3D".

Ooohh that kind of close.

Yes you can input a traverse into a network and it will generate a precision, misclose etc using a number of different adjustment methods.

If in the other hand you've got a HP calculator with closure software on it I'd be using that.

No, you can get an error of closure for a parcel. It just returns
REALLY high numbers since parcels HAVE to be closed to be able to be
created

So the answer is no, you can't get there from here unless you create a
traverse, and even that's a tricky prospect without the data. I've got
an add-on legal writer that reports it, but it requires polylines, not
parcels (the version that I was running, anyway - I've got the beta for
one that DOES use parcel objects, but we're back to the old "has to
close to be created" issue)

Jason:

Cannot we just take the closure distance and divide by the perimeter and
work from there? I don't think this is rocket science.
.56/3056.22 = .018323 or 1:166,794.30

Oh, we can definitely do it the old way, not an issue. I could also go
out with a compass and chain and survey, but there are somewhat better
ways. 😉 The software **SHOULD** report that to me without the aid of
a pencil and calculator...

Hi,

If you import a fieldbook with a field survey you can then do a traverse
adjustment which will report the misclosure of your measurements.

If you have defined a parcel - the parcel will be closed to the limit of
accuracy of AutoCAD and there can be no meaningful way of reporting a
misclosure distance/direction with AutoCAD based tools.

However there is another misclosure option which reports the misclosure of
the parcel on the presumption that its sides are measured for azimuth and
distance and the current C3D precision settings.
