Best Practices - Transferring CAD Files

What is the best way to transfer an entire Civil 3D project that has tons of data shortcuts and smart data to a client that has basic AutoCAD?  Will Etransmit and exploding AEC objects maintain the integrity of the "linked data"?

If the Client has installed C3D object enablers, then no special treatment is necessary.   they will see everthing that is needed.

If you want them to be able to manipulate C3D objects like contours from the surface style, then those could be exploded by you or them.

If they do not want to install the object enablers then the files will have to be exported or some other method that turns them into autocad objects.
