Automatic Save is not creating Temp files

I have my automatic save turned on and set to 10 mins.  I can visual see Civil automatically saving (as I have to wait a few seconds for the process) but it is not creating the temporary files.

I used to work fine, and I can see the last file that was created - a couple of weeks ago, but now it has just decided to stop creating these temporary files.

Does anyone know why this would happen?

It really makes this option useless if there is no temp file to get my lost information from when I crash.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Rob

Try changing the location from the default of "C:\Users\USERNAME\appdata\local\temp\" to "C:\Users\USERNAME\appdata\local\temp\Civil3D". If this then works, I suggest emptying your TEMP folder as it is likely too full of junk which can lead to other, more serious, issues.

This seemed to work!  Thanks.

Although, I didn't bother to try changing the location from the default of "C:\Users\USERNAME\appdata\local\temp\" to "C:\Users\USERNAME\appdata\local\temp\Civil3D".  I simply deleted a bunch of unwanted files from my standard temp file folder (primarily targeting the ones related to the file I which was working on that didn't seem to be auto saving, and everything seemed to be back to normal after that.

Thanks again.

I second that. I've seen the %temp% directory grow to a point where AutoCAD starts doing strange stuff, namely crashing often. Keep it clean ;-)

Do you know of any file types that I should not be deleting out of the temp folder?

Thanks.

I don't see that happening on my computer and I specifically stop AutoCAD from deleting any of those files.

There shouldn't be anything there that can't be deleted. But for example, just as you might want to keep the .sv$ files for AutoCAD, there could be files related to other applications that you might want to keep.

Having said that, I wipe it all out. Actually, I have a script on the server that does this for everyone, retaining files from the last X number of days

I've seen %temp% directories with tens of thousands of files/subdirectories and it does affect AutoCAD, or at least the perception of if affecting AutoCAD is there, because cleaning that out fixes the crashing.

I wasn't talking about just .ac$ and .sv$ files, but all of the other files windows and other apps place there too.

I guess if you have a dedicated directory for AutoCAD temp files, it wouldn't get filled up as often and/or soon.

Yes. I do have a dedicated directory. About once a month I go in and delete all but the .SV$ and the .BAK files. Every six months or so I write them on to a DVD and erase all but about a weeks worth. I only do this for myself. I tell everyone else to just delete all but the recent ones. I pretty paranoid about having backups.
