Automatic Regen

Is there a way to turn off the stupidy annoying automatic regen in layout tabs. When i zoom in or out it automatically regens, and since this is a large drawing, it takes 20-30 seconds of my time. Let alone when the stupid thing has to print, it takes almost a minutes to open up the plotter management menu, a couple minutes to preview to make sure it is right, and a couple of minutes to plot the stupid thing. It takes me almost an hour to plot a 20 page job.

Check the fast zooms setting in viewres:

viewres
Do you want fast zooms? [Yes/No] :
Enter circle zoom percent (1-20000) <10000>:

.....that sounds like what would be causing what you're describing. For
preview, a regen is required (to my knowledge, at least)......no way around
that.

Options->System Tab->Layout Regen Options

Are you not using ._PUBLISH and/or Sheet Set Manager?

Yes I am using Publish, but when the boss wants them all plotted out on 11 x 17 instead of 24 x 36, then i have to go into each tab individually, and I might as well print them while I am at it.

In that case, we just plot to file (using the standard 36x24 page setup)
and then send the set of plot files to the plotter scaled down the
appropriate amount. Typically 34x22 are plotted to 11x17 and 36x24 are
plotted to 18x24 to keep the reduction at 50% in both cases.

Does each sheet (11x17 24x36) have its own page setup? You can change the page setup in Publish to the one you want without opening each tab. You can enter the sheets twice and Publish both at the same time.

I can't get my screenshot to load to show this.

Christopher is right on the money! This is one of the major reasons to use
publish. Your pagesetup does not even have to be in the current drawing;
you can import it through publish! The duel plotting thing is sweet also,
as I can generate paper prints and PDF archives at the same time!
