As survey data collectors now come with cameras intergrated, it would be very useful to be able to have a way of hyperlinking the imported survey points to the images. Images are normally named by the survey point number that they are associated with.
Can Civil3D import points and automatically have the hyperlink field of a COGO point populated?
Can this be achieved through the survey database? Or maybe via a point-file with UDP's?

I'm pretty confident that you could do it with Map and generic Autocad points. Would that be an option?
Hi Neil
Using Map and generic points is definatly an option. I think Leica instruments do something similar, outputing a DXF with points linked to hyperlinked to images.
Could you give any guidance how this might be acheived?

I've done this in ArcGIS but I haven't worked with the latest version of Autocad's Hyperlink tool so I don't know if there is a way to automatically generate links from a block attribute, database record or Object data. I see in the help file there is supposedly a way to automatically generate links to a field. Again I don't know how it is done.
Assuming it can be done, all you'd need to do is import the points as Softdesk blocks (or any equivalent point block) and then use the point number attribute to link the points to your table of photos. The table would have the file name and path for the photos. Once they are linked you would apply the hyperlinks to the points and draw the file name from the linked table.
I'll have to run some tests to see if/how it can be done. In the meanwhile you might try posting to the Map forum as there may be Map users who could better assist.
I can't find any direct way to create hyperlinks from a data table. However there was a post in the Map forum that provides a method that should work for you.
Here is the link; http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Map-3D/import-geocoded-photos/m-p/3082604/highlight/true#M3437...
Thanks for your help Neil.
I saw that post too, but I'm not sure how to get my information into SDF format, and if I could the process is probably getting a bit long winded.
A third party app might be the way to go. I'll put it on the wish list.

Was a third party app or solution ever found to this issue?
I'm having the same concern, I have thousands of surveyed points but don't want to hyperlink each one individually to its corresponding photo. The photo file names are already populated at time of data collection and stored as part of the raw description of each point.
I want to auto populate the hyperlink field of the points on import to path to the correct folder and use the photo file name in the point description to pinpoint the proper photo. Preferably this would be automated and happen upon import. Is this a pipe dream???
A third party app might be the way to go.
Just a post to inform that this has been added to the DotSoft C3D Points module.
