AutoCad Civil 3d 2010 installation

The PC my company gave runs with Windows 7 Ultimate version 64 bit. But, when I insltall Autocad Civil 3d 2010, it runs in 32bit mode. Is there a way to make it run in 64bit?

Thanks.

No way, sir: you gotta upgrade to higher x64 release, e.g. 2011

Civil 3D 2010 does not come in a 64 bit version so unless you upgrade you will be stuck running a 32 bit program. It's still good that you got the 64 bit OS though as it will free up more memory for your Civil 3D.

Thanks for your reply guys.

So I guess i'm stuck with it for now.

Its just frustating because i've already done all 3d for our project. Then, when xref it all to one file to make the final output, it hangs...

You are right Brian about 64 bit OS freeing up more memory for your Civil 3D. But, I need more than 3GB of memory right now the 8GB RAM installed is not fully utilized. Is there a way to make AutoCad Civil 3D 2010 to use more the 3GB of memory?

Because 2010 was a 32 bit only application, it is limited to 3g by the operation system. Your best solution would be to upgrade to 2011, 2012 or 2013 the 3 64bit versions of Civil 3D.

The way I see it, you really only have three choices:

  1. Just deal with the way it is and work slowly
  2. Upgrade to a newer version of Civil 3D
  3. Decrease the amount of data in the file

Unfortunately, if you want to stick with Civil 3D, those are your choices.

Maybe I didn't understand what you mean, but are you saying that your IT crew wasted 8 GB Ram on a 32 bit Windows..??

From the way it sounds, they aren't necessarily wasting anything. They just aren't fully utilizing the capabilities of their 64 bit OS because they are still using C3D 2010 which is a 32 bit application.

The IT team gave you the correct computer. You just need to now get a version of Civil 3D that isn't 4 releases old.
