area annotation / fields

I have a bunch of polylines I want to display the areas for. I am using mtext and fields. Howver the fields format part always defaults to a less than desireable format. Is there a way to set the formatting how I want it for the entire file? Or is there a better way of labeling than fields? Thanks.

An item for the wish list...

You can get around this if you can use a table to report the areas... If the cells all have the same format they can be edited together from the properties dialog.

When I cna't use tables I use C3D labels. They will get the area of a pline.

Which label? I have a basic knowledge of them but maybe didn't dig deep enough to find one regarding area.

Thanks.

That would work real nice as well Neil. I would just make sure there are no overlapping plines that wold create overlapping parcel segments. If the OP likes that avenue then MAPCLEAN may be of use to cleanup duplicate objects.

A few examples.

Also note that if you need to sum the areas you may just want to use the table or a hatch. A hatch will sum the areas  even if they are disconnected. The resultant area can be reported with one field.

Additionally, I think I'd copy/wblock the polylines to a new drawing and then do any MAPCLEAN and parcel creation there as I've had bad experiences with parcels in the past....:)

John

Can you explain how to do this as I can't see how it could be done?

Thanks
