ArcGrid to DEM

I have NED elevation data that I obtained from a seamless data server in
ArcGrid format. I want to create a surface from the data but as far as I
know I need to convert it to DEM format first. The server only provides the
data in ArcGrid, BIL, GoTiff and GRIDFLOAT formats. I can't find a
translator and I don't have ArcGis here. How can I get this data into a
surface model?

I was expecting you would have an answer on this Murph.

I'm disappointed that we have to go through such a convoluted process to get
the data into a surface. Someone needs to develop a convertor!

I think Terry D. is working on one if he doesn't have it already.

In Civil 3D 2009 - Grid Surface from DEM the file formats include:

1. USGS DEM
2. GEOTIFF
3. ESRI ASCII Grid (.asc)
4. ESRI ASCII Grid (.txt)
5. ESRI Binary Grid (.adf)

Enjoy,

Peter,

I cannot find the procedure for adding .adf data into a surface. Could you
direct me to the help topic or outline the steps?

Oops, I had opened 2008 by mistake. In 2009 the file format is available.
However C3D crashes when I select the .adf file. I'll keep trying.

Create a new TIN surface (You can also go with New DEM and just browse,
but you can't do coordinate transforms with that last time I looked.)
Expand the Definition branch
Right-click on DEM Files and select Add.
Click the browse button in the upper right.
Change the file extension to ADF.
Find your data and enjoy your GIS goodness.

Hope this helps.

I tried adding the .adf data every way I could but the .adf file crashes
C3D. I re-downloaded the data as Geotiff and that works but I can't
transform either the data when adding it to the surface or the surface
afterward from WGS84 to state plane. Is that a limitation of the GeoTiff or
will I be able to transform the surface if I use the .adf format?

Take GridFloat. MWImport should import it and MWSurfaces Grid Edit
should convert it to DEM. The extensions should be FLT & HDR, choose
"ESRI ArcView Binary Grid (*.hdr)"

I'm working on the others. Email me if you have questions.
