Annoying on Civil 3D 2007 : Why Non-Resizable Dialog boxes?

Just wondering most of the dialog boxes are non-resizable?
This can be so annoying if you have plenty of rows to scroll using the tinied scrollbar. Makes me crazy.

I'm curious if C3D 2008 has this addressed?

No, it has not been addressed in 2008.

I made the same comment last year, and got feedback from them that they were in the process of redesigning the dialog boxes so they weren't like this. I was disappointed when I installed 2008 and found nothing had changed.

it's not totally true- there are a few dialog boxes that weren't resizeable before that are resizeable now. of course i am too weary to recall which ones. there are also more windows that respond to shift+click selections, like the code set style dialog box.

but alas, there are still many that do not resize.

nothing Owen could not fix right?
He's been partially busy fixing a prog called OpenDCL, which lisp programmers use for dialog boxes.
Anyway, I wonder if Quikpik could be adapted to them.

Just had the C3D training (sp1 btw). Still a lot (most?) of the DBs are not
resizeable. Makes the dual screens kinda a waste, being forced to work in a
tiny DB!
I would guess that is just lazy programers. But, then again, this has to be
a huge program with lots of code. And overall, the program is better than
LDD.

But we also lost the Hydrology and Data Collection/Input (from survey
package) menus (any others). Converting points will now be a pain. Having
to go to another maching with TDS on it, waiting for it to be available.
Some of the time saved in C3D will be lost becuse of these omissions.

Tell me why you are losing time converting points - what type of data
collectors are you using, what do you convert from/to using TDS Survey
Link, etc. I *may* have something that will save you considerable
time, but no promises 😉

Curently (LDD07) have the survey module loaded with Data Collection / Input
menu for converting cr5 to csv.
Do not have to leave my chair. NICE. (Why we still use csv, IDK! Try
getting the surveyors to change how they work.....)

In C3D I will have to go to the survey computer that has the TDS Survey Link
program installed to convert points.
Leave chair - walk to computer - wait in line for computer to be free -
convert points - walk back to office.
I really should not complain - that amount of exercise might do me some
good.

You didn't answer the entire question. If you're still using Survey
Link to create a simple text file (CSV) then that can be done without
Survey Link (thus the question that I asked.)

I'm speaking for only the hardware that I'm 100% familiar with, so if
you use anything different you'd have to check to see if this holds true:

In TDS data collectors (Rangers and Recons) and in Carlson Data
Collectors (or any collector running Carlson on a Windows Mobile device)
you can export the CSV file directly. Since those collectors connect
to your computer via ActiveSync, no need for getting up for exercise.

On the HP48GX running TDS software (hey, some people are still using
them), you will need to download Carlson Connect to be able to do this
transfer. 2008 version should be out soon (I hope).

I have asked our surveyors what format they can export and they have never
answered a csv.
CR5, RAW, and JOB files they can export. Maybe those are just the ones they
know how to do.
They use both rangers and recons. So maybe it is just user education (that
would include me) that is needed.

Our workflow has all of the survey crews dumping their jobs into one
specific folder for all jobs (some file path on the network\\TDS).
When we go to draw the survey, we will across the network and from our
seats, convert the CR5 to CSV inside of LDD.

Thanks, Jason, for your help.
I will see if they can find out how to download/upload a CSV.

I think that StringerConnect will do this as well.

Hi Rob,

Have a look at Stringer Connect.

It is free and you can download it from www.civil3Dtools.com

They can do this on the DC. I've got a demo of TDS Survey Pro on my
machine, will TRY to create an AVI demonstrating this for you guys.
Give me until tomorrow - I'm about to leave the office for a meeting and
won't be in until late tonight.

There should be a TXT file extension on the TDS output below the JOB, RAW and CR5 exports.

That TXT file is just a comma delimited file. No translation needed. Our crews export RAW, JOB, TXT and XML.

Actually XML also exports the coords, but in a slightly different format, but Excel should also open it too!

Thanks all

We found the TXT export and are going to give that a try.
