I frequently use ALT+TAB or CTRL+TAB to toggle between drawings open in one AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 session. It usually works great, until it doesn't. It will tease me by showing the desired drawing (for 3-30 seconds, without a command prompt) and then switch back to the one I wanted to leave. Once this problem occurs I use the QuickView button at the bottom of the screen to force the change. The appropriate drawing will be displayed but it still takes a while for the command prompt to appear (3-30 seconds). This problem is not drawing specific or session specific, and it cannot be predicted or reproduced on command. Is this a known issue or is my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 installation compromised somehow? Any help will be appreciated.
Windows 7-64bit
I do not use those commands enough to answer but there are commands that just quit working. I just save and re-start Civil 3D, that seems to correct it.
Just my 2 cents.

Oddly enough I experienced this for the first time yesterday. A quick shutdown and reboot fixed it though. I'm in 2013 and have only experienced it once. Is this a normal behaviour or just sometimes?
I see this every day. I avoid the issue if I use the Quick View Drawings button on the lower right of the Status Bar but it's hard to get out of the CTL+Tab habit.

Thanks for the input everybody. After checking the computer specs in all of your posts it seems like this might be part of my problem. My specs:
Civil 3D 2012 SP2.1
Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit (SP1)
Intel Core2 Duo; 2.33 GHz
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290
The two of you with faster processor speeds and more RAM haven't had this issue, while the one with similar processor speeds and RAM has it happen all the time. If I can't talk IT into beefing up my computer I guess I'll just have to get used to it.
Thanks again.
I talked out IT guy into another 4GB of RAM and its a lot better.
He's also going to upgrade my video card this weekend, so maybe that'll improve it as well.
You may want to try to get more memory too John. It might help you too.
Thanks again.
I have the exact same problem
Alt+tab or Ctrl+tab does not work properly.
(Screen does not refresh)
I even tried the view button in lower right hand corner.
It works fine in AutoCAD 2013 but does not work properly in AutoCAD 2014
I am going back to AutoCAD 2013 until this issue is fixed!
Avid user,

What version of AutoCAD are you currently using?
I only have this problem with AutoCAD 2014
Thanks in advance for your reply.

System upgraded to:
Civil 3D 2012 SP2.1
Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit (SP1)
Intel Core2 Duo; 2.33 GHz
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700
Performed better for a bit, but problem has reappeared.
Beginning to regret the upgrade to Civil 3D 😞
have done some more testing and this problem is related to "hardware acceleration"
I turned off "hardware acceleration" and everything is working fine again.
AutoCAD 2014
Lower right hand corner, under performance tuner.
HI,
For anyone who still has this problem, try this:
https://windowsreport.com/alt-tab-not-working-windows-8/
Or
https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/60608-alt-tab-use-classic-icons-default-thumbnails.html
Solution 2 worked for me on Win10:
1. Open the Start Menu, then type regedit in the search boxand press Enter.
2. If prompted by UAC, click on Yes.
3. In regedit, go to the location below. (see screenshot below)HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer4. To Have ALT+TAB with Classic IconsA) In the right pane of Explorer, right click on a empty space and click on New and DWORD (32-bit) Value. (see screenshot below)5. To Have ALT+TAB with Thumbnail PreviewsB) Type in AltTabSettings and press enter. Right click on AltTabSettings and click on Modify. (see screenshot below)C) Type in 1 and click on OK. (see screenshot below)D) Go to step 6.
NOTE: This is the default setting.A) In the right pane of Explorer, right click on AltTabSettings and click on Delete. (see screenshot below)6. Close regedit.B) Click on Yes to confirm deletion. (see screenshot below)
7. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply the changes.
