Alphabetical Data Shortcuts List

I have seen two older & other un-answered post and hoping there is an available answer with 2015. I would like my Data Reference list to show in order like it once did. I recently converted a project from Vault to Data shortcuts. With the Vault, it managed it in an alpha order. Now with the recent conversion, it is completely random. It happenes in all Shorcut folders. I have attached a picture of what I am getting. I'm hoping there is a simple way to fix this.

What does the XML files look like in the _Shortcuts folder? Not quite sure what they would look like if converted to Vault. If they don't start with the object name it might explain the out of order shortcuts.

They do start with the object name and then a bunch of random code. It looks the same for original data shortcut data and converted from vault data.

Hello Kris,

there has been an Autodesk knowledge article published recently covering this topic, see

Hope this helps,
Karsten

AFAIK, the Data Shortcuts listing has always been random, possibly the order in which the objects are created?

It would be nice to be able to sort the list, it's functioned this way in versions 2011 - 2014 and possibly longer.

Really, Autodesk with revenues of over $300 million dollars selling a product that retails at over $1,000 per year can't provide a script to do this task that would take about two hours to create? This is plain crappy product support and customer service. It's not like we are buying software from a company that doesn't employee programmers. Sounds like it's time for another million dollar app, this one to solve this simple problem.

That is more of a work around for sorting data shortcut lists than it is a solution.

2010 Vault was able to order them at all times. I know that is an add-on with 2015 and we are choosing to do without the paid version of vault. It would be nice to use that same capability with data shortcuts though. The problem with the solution above  (I think as I have not tried it yet) is that it is the order at a point in time. It references surfaces, but also happens to alignments as well. Sometimes I have streets changing names multiple times. Should I have to reorder every time I add or change an alignment name?

Agreed!

I think that would be the implications, that's why the correct customer service response would have been a script to run to rename the files. You'll also want to allow spaces between numbers in order to allow for additions and name changes.
