Hello ShannonBeth,
Can you explain what you mean by "File Dialog settings just switching at random?"
Do you mean that normally when AutoCAD needs a file, you get a dialog, but then, seemingly at random, sometimes it wants you to enter the info on the command line? If you set Filedia to 1, it works again, but you want to know why it changes?
That's because you were in some custom command (a lisp routine or .net dll) that set the value of Filedia to 0 but then crashed or didn't finish completely, not getting to the point in the routine where it resets filedia to 1.
Or maybe you mean that the File Dialog seems to set itself to looking for .dwt files instead of .dwg files. This is not random, either, but is caused by your opening of a .dwt file with the Open command. It you edit your drawing template, you have to open it and AutoCAD remembers that you last opened a dwt. I wish they would always default to dwg, but, alas, it has been this way forever.
Does any of this relate to your comlaint. If not, can you describe in more detail?
Best regards,
Tim
