Adjust (or turn off) the Pipe Network connection "glif"

Can I change the C3D pipes settings to decrease the tendency of pipes to
want to snap / connect to structures? I'm trying to tie sanitary sewer
laterals directly into the main sewer line. The lateral pipes tend to snap
to the manholes instead of teeing directly into the sewer main.

Mark:

I haven't used pipes in 2010 yet, but to connect laterals to mains, doesn't
this cause the line from MH to MH to become segmented?
Or has this been changed?

Thanks,

Bill

It does, but this is for existing sewer, so it's not an issue. (Mark posted the original question for me.)

If you are placing structures and pipes on separate layers, just freeze/turn
off the structure layer?

Good try, but it didn't work. C3D still recognizes the junction as a structure and tries to snap the pipe to it within about 6.5'.

I would not think that it would snap if they are in different networks.

Charles,

Did you freeze the network layers or the component layers? I would think
you need to freeze our "-C3D_Network-*" layer to see if the layer thing
works.

In this case you will also need to adjust the network layers in Network
Properties for the new structures\pipes to go on (e.g. "-C3D_Network-LAT").

I have a network for sewers and another for laterals....separate for sewer and stormwater.
This way the parts list for sewers and laterals can have separate rules associated with them.

For laterals, I just overlap each lateral a very small amount across the sewer main.

By keeping them in separate networks, I can use pipe network bands in my PVs and not have the data tainted by adding laterals in the same network....so I can show my laterals as crossing pipes if I wish on my sewer PVs.

One thing I still struggle with tho' is not easily being able to attach multiple pipe strings to a single structure without them snapping to cl of structure...eg a triple-barrelled culvert...so I only code in the central pipe and just draw the rest with linework and remember to alter the quantities.

Hope that helps.

Peter
