Add Vertex Elevation Label to Feature Line

How do I create an elevation label on the ends of a 3D feature line? I've read some threads on the forums, but can't understand why I can't accomplish this. Would somebody please summarize the steps from creating the label style to adding it to the line? I'm grading a parking lot and to see dynamic updates to elevations and grades to the 3D feature lines would be just awesome. Also, I have 2009, in case you have a file link in a reply. Thanks.

I typically use the quick elevation editor or surface spot elevations. If you want line labels you'll need to add the start or end segments elevation to the layout component and then set the anchor component to and the anchor point to end or start.
