Add Points to Point Group

OK, maybe I am being dense but, Is there an easy way to add points to a point group by selection set?

Currently, I make my selection set, Go to Prospector, point groups, Select the point group I want to add points to, right click, select properties, select the "include" tab, Select the "With number matching box, pick the "selection set in drawing" button.

Not very elegant.

On a similar topic, is there a way to drag and drop points from the "all points" point group in the Prospector to another point group as a way to add them to a point group?

Thanks in advance,
Ed

This how we've been adding selected points to point groups for decades. If
you have a better idea, take a trip over to the wish list forum and add it.
I'd be curious to hear a cool idea on this.

Regarding dragging points into a group from another group, this used to
work. I don't know if it's a bug with 2008, but it doesn't work in 2008.

Thanks Matt.
It seems like a right click menu item "add points to point group..." would be handy if points were selected.

I thought that I had read on this forum about dragging and dropping points to point groups in Prospector, but when I tried it I couldn't get it to work.

Yes, it worked perfectly in 2007, but does not work with 2008.

R-Click would be a nice and elegant options for sure. Select in dwg and
right click. Easy enough. Let's hope. Definitely add that to the wish
list forum.

Can someone please update the help file? https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-civil-3d/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/...

I'm thinking after 9 years we can call this feature broken and probably never to be fixed, so the help file should probably be removed to reflect the reality of the program.

Or can someone please show me a video on a recent version of Civil 3D on how it's supposed to work?

Thank you,

If we select civil 3d points we should be able to right click and get a contextual ribbon tab that has an add points to point groups command. This should bring up the points group dialog. Select the group and click ok. I seem to recall this workflow very well from an older program... Add a simple point inverse command too.

These tools and a few other survey commands  need to be quickly accessed for surveyors not buried in a workflow.

@Nilesh_Chaudhari  what's up with responding to a 13-year-old post? Why not provide a video showing it working? The user's have said it's been broken for the past 13 years and Autodesk's position is that it has been working all this time?

Here is my video showing it not working like the help file shows it should. https://autode.sk/38ijcSr

If you are looking for more Toolspace Broken Features, the Autodesk Civil 3D Help: About Dragging Styles or Items Between Drawings is also broken.

https://help.autodesk.com/view/CIV3D/2021/ENU/?guid=GUID-FE74465D-AA10-49B9-9BD8-8FCAC9661993

Or is there some magic steps Autodesk is using internally and won't share with the rest of the world?

Hi all,

I've tested this in the 2021 version, sure enough, something weird is going on. I can get drag the points, BUT you will then have to right click and update, and what I found is that instead of dragging the selected points, all points got dragged into the new point groups.

I'll share this with the Product Team and I'll be sharing this thread with them as well.

Knowing that 2007 version used to work is a great information, I'll add it to the report.
If you have any other questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to help!
Thanks again for the feedback, have an awesome Monday!

@Anonymous

A right-click menu option would probably work well for this. That's the first thing I tried. First on the selected point, then in the Prospector tab on the point group. Selecting properties, then manually adding the point number works, but a right click option would be more intuitive.

Of course you'd rather have it included in the base product. But Sincpac C3D includes a Rt-Clk option to move points to or from point groups. Along with many other very useful features.

The official solution is to download third party software for $175 to fix the provided program?
