acad.exe using 25% CPU even when Civil 3D is not running...?

I have noticed that after I close Civil 3D the acad.exe process does not close but keeps running using 25% CPU.

If I reopen Civil 3D another instance of acad.exe will begin and after closing be using another 25%. This continues until I could have 100% CPU usage after closing Civil 3D 4 times even though I don't even have the program running!

I am wondering what people have done to address this? Is it just a matter of users keeping an eye on this, or can disabling InfoCenter (Which I have already done) Application Manager or Content Service make a difference?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Ross.

To second Dgorsman's comment.

Please submit details on the version and any service packs installed.

Now do you have any of the following:

AutoDesk 360 installed on pc and logged in? Autocad will try to communicate with the 360 server so often / constantly so may use process power to do this.

Any paths in the config pointing to network drives?

Any Applications loaded from network drives?

Does the Graphics card share the PC CPU?

Just some thaughts. I recomend installing the System Internals Process monitor as this may give a better insite as to what's going on here.

I'm using Civil 3D SP1 64-Bit

Autodesk 360 is not installed

All paths are pointing to my Local Drive

The only Add-Ons I have are Autodesk Screencast, AutoTURN Pro 3D and Sincpac

Dedicated NVidia Quadro 2000 Graphics Card

This is happening on all our computers running Civil 3D with or without Sincpac installed, but does not occur on Vanilla AutoCad

If you close acad and still see it in the process manager terminate it. It is a crashed instance running.

If  you close acad.exe it should not show in the process manager.

and as Mike said it may take a few seconds to close by itself but it should.

Hi John,

It doesn't matter how long I wait, and it does not appear to be a crashed instance running, as it happens every time on all of our computers, whether we exit using the File Menu or the Close 'X' for the Window.

Regards.

Ross.

That just doesn't sound right to me and I cannot reproduce the behaivor in 2013 or 2015.

If I close acad it will remove itself from the task manager about 20 sec after I close the app. Except for the delay which I beleive is from acCloudManager this is the same behaivor I have seen since R9. Close acad and it is not a running process.

I would confirm that either 360 is fully removed or confirm that no one is logging on to the service or that ther service is not crashing.

Hi John,

360 is fully removed, using the Install/Uninstall process.

No one is logging on and I can't see how it can be crashing every time for everyone...?

After a bit of a look with IT we have been able to see that even after disabling the ACWebBrowser.exe *32, the Chromium Host Executable (By changing NEWTABMODE to '0') the Acad.exe process still remains open with 25% CPU usage.

This happens even if I open the Program and Exit before opening a drawing...?

Regards.
Ross.

I cannot reproduce it with AutoCAD either...

If you  have a Subscription contract I would start a support case.

I have lodged a Support Case now.

Hopefully AutoDesk can shed some light on this one...

Ross,

Did you solve this?  I am noticing that C3D 2016 SP1 or 2 utilizes 20%+ CPU when selecting objects in certain drawings, vs 5-10% for 2014 - for the same drawings.  The result is that 2016 hesitates / drags compared to 2014.   I've been trying different PCs and different certifies graphics cards with no success so far.  Settings I also tried are:

(command"SELECTIONPREVIEW""0")
(command"SHOWLAYERUSAGE""0")
(command"HPQUICKPREVIEW""OFF")
(command"FILETABPREVIEW""0")
(command"FILETABTHUMBHOVER""0")
(command"INPUTSEARCHDELAY""800")
(command"PALETTEOPAQUE""1")
(command"NAVBARDISPLAY""0")
(command"NAVVCUBEDISPLAY""0")
(command"COMMANDPREVIEW""0")

(command"proxygraphics""0")
(command"ROLLOVERTIPS""0")
(command"isavepercent""0")
;;(command"regenmode""1")
(command"viewres" "y" "250")
(command"gripobjlimit" "50")
(command"highlight" "1")
(command"showlayerusage" "0")
(command"savefidelity" "0")
(command "-purge" "_R" "*" "_N")
;; turn off dynamic UCS:
(command"ucsdetect""0")
;; turn off quick properties mode:
(command"qpmode""0")
;;(command"whipthread""3")
;;turn off dynamic input:
(command"DYNMODE""-3")
(command"RegenAuto""Off")

Anyone have any suggestions or have similar experience?

Thanks for any info!

Jim

I have the same issue with AutoCAD 2020. I last used it yesterday, or maybe the day before, but it is still running more than 24 hrs after I closed it and using 57.9% of CPU.
