2D Area for Volume Surface

Hello,

Is there a way to get the 2D area of a volume surface?

TIA,

you can make this kind of area table for any surface

just make the surface range your whole elevation range

Yeah, but it's so ugly that it makes me want to ask "are you sure?" 😉

The only way that I found is to assign a style to your volume surface
that displays only the border. Explode the surface twice (I'd probably
try to do this to a copy of the surface), then you're left with 3D
faces. Using the BOUNDARY command, create a closed polyline of all
those 3D faces. Get the area of said polyline.

Like I said, it's ugly, but it gets you the info that you need.

If anyone knows of a better way, I'm all ears....

Hello Melanie,

You can make a legend table ( a 1 range elevation study from min. to max.
should do) then you can add 2D and/or 3D surface area to custom columns (see
Image).

The 2D & 3D surface areas are available for TIN surfaces and Grid surfaces.
Unfortunately, that information is not available for TIN Volume Surfaces or
Grid Volume Surfaces.
