so, here's the deal, I have a 2011 template drawing that I've added all the information to that I know about how to survey in C3D. I've used it for a few years now and it works great for us. We now have to update it for used in 2014. IT has told me that I need to create a new 2014 drawing and bring the 2011 styles, groups, etc. into it that way. I used the management import tool to do this in 2014. Seems like all the styles, etc. came over just fine. Anyone know of a way to test whether or not the template drawing has any garbage in it, such as purging and auditing, so all the bad stuff is gone? Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks!

That import tool does bring in styles and some settings, but know that it misses some very important settings, such as everything in the "Object Layers" tab in Drawing settings and the Ambient settings tabs. There are several other things, see link below. I've had many of my default styles become not the default when attempting to use this command.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great command, but it has its limitations. RECOVERing the 2011 file using 2014 then saving as 2014 is generally all one needs to do. True, on some ocassions, this is not without its faults, but those can generally be worked around.
I'm curious why IT is mandating how you deal with your CAD stuff. If the DWT has been working great for you, what "bad stuff" would there be?

Maybe because their IT is like my IT. Don't know anything about Autodesk products and don't want to know.
The OP might want to read THIS post and THIS post to get an idea of what others are doing and having trouble with.

If I can recall, when I brought my "old" template forward I was wondering the same thing. It magically appeared anyway.

Let me make this perfectly clear. I said "if I recall . . ." It HAS been a while. DO NOT take it to the bank.

It might be possible to insert the recovered drawing into an OOTB template.

Thanks Everyone:
This helps. Our IT is leaving for Greener Pastures, so cannot help with the transition, knows way more about C3D than I do.
We are surveyors, not IT folks or software guys, so I am mostly concerned with what I can do wrong here. I really like the links that showed me what others are doing, and where the problems are. That helps the most.
Thanks for all the help. Any further thoughts would be appreciated.
This sounds like a much larger job than I'd hoped.

Well, I did say the default styles came in and if you wanted NCS you'd have to copy them 🙂
