Point displays - Drag point codes independently from point level

I've recently switched to Civil 3d 2015 after using Land Desktop since the late 90's.

I’m trying to find a way to drag my point codes independently from the point levels without much success.

In Land Desktop many of our description key symbols (i.e. boundary peg) would have the symbol and a bit of attribute text which we could grab and move seperate from the symbol if it was in the way of other text or line work.

In Civil 3d I have to use the point code in place of the attribute text (which is fine), but I can’t find a way to move it independently of the spot level with the grips, and keeping both in the same orientation and not stacked. (level is at 45 degrees and code is at 90 degrees)

I’ve already spent hours trying to find a solution on the net for something that wouldn’t be a problem if Civil 3d would allow description key symbols independent of point markers!

Any suggestions ?

I'm hoping there is just a check box or something I am overlooking.

I've attached a screen shot showing how the point/symbol/code is displayed.

You will get more traffic with this type of question in the General Discussion Group. This one is more programming related.

I don't think the way you are trying to do it is possible. I'd create styles for various rotations and then change the style to appropriate one. In the label style have two components and then rotate them appropriately.

Hmmm.

The more I use Civil 3d the more things I find I can't do that were simple tasks in Land Desktop.

So basically I need to setup at least 4 label syles with the description in top left, bottom left, top right and bottom right for each point symbol (I have hundreds),

and then manually change the label syle (bottom right in the case of a boundary peg) through the property editor when it's clashing with something ?

I wonder what the reason for removing the ability to use point markers and description key symbols from Civil 3d was ?, it's removed a lot of  the functionality that Land Desktop had.

You can toggle sub item grips, although you can't rotate them which sounds like it would fix your problem. I haven't checked 2015 to see if it has that feature.

How do you do that ?

I can see there seem to be extra grips when I drag the label, but nothing is attached to them.

I just figured out the toggle thing!

Hovering over the object once selected allows you to choose what you want to drag.

Awesome, problem solved!

Because I set the rotation of the code in the label style not being able to rotate with the toggle isn't a problem.

Thanks for the suggestion.
