Getting Started with Custom Subassemblies

I have been programming in Autocad, LDT, and C3D 2008 with VBA for years (all self taught. I now would like to learn how to program custom subassemblies. From what I read, I should do this in dot net. I have found a section of the 2008 Civil 3D Developer's Guide called Creating Custom Subassemblies that I will start my training with, but I was just wondering if there are any other resources available that would help me.

Thanks,

Jeff

http://www.adskconsulting.com/adn/cs/api_course_sched.php you can download the ADN class webcast that covered the Civil 3D API which should have had a section on creating subassemblies (I haven't watched this one though).

Also I found if you add the custom subassembly to an existing tool catalog you don't need to go to the trouble of creating a registry file.

Thanks. Thats a good start. I have one other question. I have never used dot net so I bought a book. Can I use the same compliler within AutoCAD that I use to write VBA programs or do I need to buy and install another one in order to program in dot net?

You can download Visual Studio Express Edition for free from Microsoft's website. Most people use either VB or C# for .NET programming. There is also a rabid following for some newer options, such as IronPython or Boo. But you'll probably find a lot more sample code and examples in C#. And the code for the Stock Subassemblies (found in the Civil-3D installation directory) is written in VB.
