Eagle Point to AutoCAD Civil 3D Migration

We are going to be switching from Eagle Point to Civil 3D in the near future. Is it possible to copy/migrate our custom field code library from Eagle Point (2005 version) to Civil 3D (2010 version)? If yes, how is it done?

We are in process of doing the same. What we found was it was better to start from scratch. Nodes are not nodes anymore. As one C3D author stated “you’re not in AutoCAD anymore Toto” and with the flexibility of the C3D description keys it’s just not apples to apples. More like grapes to grapefruit. Your line work coding and block/marker scaling is different as well. If you haven’t already, once you get into C3D and the styles I think you will see why. We also changed our layering to National Cadd Standards which made it easier for us to just start over. I would suggest that you come up with a point matrix in excel to keep tract of everything. IE: a general point description, collector input, Format (raw description to a drawing description), the point style, the Block/marker, Point label style, Layer, and how you are scaling. You’ll have to make some decisions and I found it easier to use this before inputting all the data. We did have a good system and may have given up too soon, but we found this as an opportunity to improve on what we had. There may be a yes out there, but if not, some things to think about.

Good Luck

Hi Rainman1,

We have never used Eaglepoint but have done a
fair bit of work in converting correlation files to civil3d.

If EP stores the correlation of code to symbol,
layer, linetype, scales, etc in a ascii file (even by export) I would be very
interested in creating a programme to streamline the conversion
process.

There isn't any direct way to copy or migrate your
Node Field Code Library to Description Keys in Civil 3D. To help users
migrating from Eagle Point to Civil 3D, we have built Description Key Sets from
their Custom Field Code Libraries. We have also built a product called Data
Reduction to assist those that use our Data Collection product and a product
called Task Navigator for Civil 3D to assist you in following a defined process
to complete your work.
