Curve and Line Table Spacing to large

Anonymous

The vertical spacing in curve and line tables (the space between the text and the horizontal line) is too big.  This makes the table too long and hard to fit on maps.  For regualr tables, you can modify this.  However, for curve and line tables this is not available.   Is there a .NET file that creates/formats the tables that I could modify to reduce the spacing??

C3D 2012, but the same is true for 2014.

I think this can set using the Table Prop. Did you check this ?

Thanks,

Yes I did check that.  For regualar tables, that setting is avaialble.  For curve and line tables it is not.

After selecting the Curve Table, from the Ribbon select the 'Table Properties' and from the drop down select 'Edit Table style'. And there you could access the settings related to spaces.

I must be missing something.  I created a line table, (same as a curve table), selected it, then, from the ribbon, selected Edit Table Properties, and the same properties are avaialble as before.  Line Spacing and vertical clearanace is not avaialble.

What am I missing??

Partha,
There is no way to change the spacing between the text and the lines of the tables. You can only edit the height of the text.

This has been a requested feature for a while now.

Is there any way to get the source for the table that I could manipulate myself?  This is a significant problem for many of our maps.

Thanks for the confirmation Stacy !

Dave -

Is there any way to get the source for the table that I could manipulate myself?   >>> No, this is part of integrated code base and source is not available to public / developers. If you want I can log an API wish list for the same.

Thanks,

Partha,

Having this ability in the API is good, but shouldn't it be added to the table style so any user can change it?

I agree with Stacy, and, quite frankly, this is something that has been asked for since c.2006. Line/Curve/Parcel/anyAECCtable must be able to have the table style editable just as the base Autocad table styles are.

Thank you, Jeff. My Acad provider told me I should put it on the wishlist to make sure it got tracked.  However, as you noted, this has been on the list since 2006 and nothing done yet.  I have to vent a little.  Autodesk seems to be intent on coming out with grand new stuff every year, but not so engaged in fixing the little stuff that is an ongoing irritation.  A "North Only Bearing" setting comes to mind.

Jeff / Stacy -

Can you pull out any ref discussion or wish list Id for the same which was logged / reported to Civil 3D team  on this UI feature ?

I can go back to them with that ref. / Id to add an appropriate priority.

Thanks,

Partha

Partha, where would one go to officially log this item as a wish?  I thought this is what the Wish forum was for.

Hi Partha

Here we are in 2020 and still no ability to change the spacing?

That's correct, Peter. It was accepted as an Idea to be incorporated about 4-5 years ago, yet still nothing. Evidently making sure we all work from 'the cloud' is far more important...something I doubt I will ever use.

The issue is the excessive fixed spacing at 3.9 x the text height.

Normally text would be 1 x or 1.5 x (Word has a max of 3 x)

I am sure that is a simple fix change to something more workable.

Yes, I know what the issue is. It is likely a fairly simple fix. It's just not important to Autodesk to change it. If they'd just open up the API so us that dabble with programming could provide a fix, but that has also fallen on deaf ears.
