Accessing QTO data attached to surfaces

Hi all

I read an old AU paper a while ago which I thought said QTO pay items are attached to objects as xdata.

I see a pay item can be assigned to a surface but just a count of 1 is return for the quantities.

With this the case I was thinking of writing some code to scan surfaces in the drawing for attached xdata pay items and extract the surfaces cut and fill data then marrying them together and amend it to a quantity take off report already generated or scanning the report for the applicable pay code and updating the quantities assigned to it. Has anyone tried to access these pieces of data? Is it possible.

We do a lot of car parks rather than corridors so always hand typing this data into our estimates and if I could automate the process would be great.
Regards
