Windows security patch breaks Project Navigator

We were having crash issues when switching projects in Project Navigator. I came across this and it fixed the problem

This issue seems to affect 2014 & older.

I have a user who is crashing when using Detail Component Manager.  It would appear that any AutoCAD Architecture component that relies on the Internet Explorer engine to drive it is affected (previous thread here mentioned Structural Member Catalog).
