WIn7-64Bit Architecture Upgrade and relationship to AutoCAD

Hello and thanks,

This piggybacks off my previous Post. But different enough to create a new "Subject"

Working with a customer to move from XP 32bit to W7-64 Bit. Looking at/for all 'used' options (years).

Now using very old Architecture (2001 3.3 and 2004) but does have AutoCAD 2010 on machine.

1) What is the relationship between AutoCAD and Architecture when installed on same machine?

- Are they 100% independent of each other?

- Because they have AutoCad 2010 installed and want to update there Architecture, should they look for Architecture 2010 so it matches their version of AutoCAD, or would any Architecture 2009 or newer work?

- For Win7 -64bit, Autodesk shows Architecture 2009 as the first year that supports Win7-64bit, any comments on this version like "works fine on W7-64bit", or "stay away, get Architecture 20XX for Win7-64" or ???

Thanks again

You can't buy 2010 legally.

You all need to be on the same DWG format AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Architecture:
2013-2014 newest format
2010-2011-2012 older format
2007-2008-2009 older still
and so on.

Plain AutoCAD cannot edit or create ARCHITECTURE components.

64bit Windows is the only way to go:32bit is for your children and your receptionist who does nothing more that print and write short letters all day.

Perfect, very helpful. So glad I did not get that ACA 2009 version, will look for ACA 2010 - ACA 2012, to go with the AutoCAD 2010....anybody out there moving on from one if these? and funny last comment, I agree and will share with the client.

FYI, It looks like the client is going to have me put XP-32 on the new PC and run their older Architecture 3.3 until they can secure a used version of ACA 2010/2012. And then go to WIn7-64. Yes a pain and added cost but they cannot financially do different, and they cannot be down for more then a day.

Pendean, you said "You can't buy 2010 legally". Working with Autodesk in the past, I thought if the product license had not been used for an upgrade, it can be transferred to a new workstation? or even used for an "upgrade".

It's a simple and clear settlement: the chances of you finding new 2010 licenses that have never been registered are rare.
Autodesk will not sell 2010 to anyone anymore.

Good luck.

Good luck.
