Updated Workaround instructions for 64 Bit OS Install

1. Download and install Orca from Microsoft.
2. Copy the installation files to your hard drive or a network folder.
3. Backup the files ACA.msi and Setup.ini
4. Edit the ACA.msi with Orca and delete the action found in the table
"InstallExecuteSequence" that is called "CheckFor64BitOS" Delete the same
line under table "CustomAction"
5. Save and close the ACA.msi
6. Edit the Setup.ini with Notepad. Delete the line under
"#==================== Platform Requirement" that is labeled
"PLATFORM=NO_WOW_64_PROCESS"
7. Double-click the Setup.exe and you should be able to install without any
problems.
8. Some support paths under the "Files" tab of the configuration dialog box
have incorrect paths. The installer adds and extra "\AppData\AppData" to
some support paths located in the user profile. For example the Main
Customization File's path is listed as
"C:\Users\%username%\AppData\AppData\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ACD-A
2008\enu\Support\ADT" when it should be
"C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ACD-A 2008\enu\Support\ADT"
Fix the incorrect paths, hit apply, and you are good to go.

I wonder why the ADT team chose to disable 64 bit installs. The program
seems to function fine in Vista 64 bit. ADT 2006 and 2007 installed without
a hitch on this same system even though you had to set them to run as ADMIN
in order to be able to use them, so I am not buying the whole "the ARX
programs don't work with 64 bit" argument. I switched to Revit a few years
ago anyway, but it is a shame what they are doing to ADT. Peace out.

Great post, this worked like a dream. I purchased a 64 bit OS after talking to a rep about the new MEP 2008 and it was my understanding it would be available in 64 bit. While im glad there is a easy workaround i am still disappointed there is not a release yet of native 64 bit for MEP 2008.

Thanks

Has anyone tried the 64-bit disc that comes with ACA 2009? Works fine on my Vista 64 macihine. And it's a 64-bit app, too!

I think this solution will only work for an XP 64-bit OS and not the Vista version:

"The applications you develop with this edition of the SDK can run on the x86, x64 and Itanium-based versions of Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows XP SP2, Windows XP x64 Pro Edition, and Windows 2000. "

I was not able to load Orca in Vista 64-bit OS

Maybe is not necessary to install Orca on 64bit Vista. Insstall it on other PC, change files and copy back to 64bit system and install. I'll test this soon and write with results.

Ye It works, but I would like to install not 64bit version, i would like to install 32bit version of Civil3D on 64bit windows, because I have other software which don't work on 64bit AutoCAD(Civil3D) .

We have additional software which not have 64bit version and work only with 32 bit AutoCAD. This is the main reason. From other side we would like to take advantage for other software and the power of the machines and to have 64bit OS. Finally I'll do this with Civil2008 which we have and will run it. Thanks for cooperation.

In addition: I take orca and follow the instructions but, in MEP.msi I have no problems, but this row in setup.ini missing in 2009 version. Thanks again and have a nice day.

In 2009 you can not load up the 32 bit on a 64 bit machine. I got that direct from AutoCAD. I too am using a thrid party software that works only in 32-bit application. Got the word yesterday were they said due the large amount of devolpement to upgrade to 64 bit they will not be addressing it anytime soon. There recommended solution for 64-bit machines is to install a 32-bit OS on the machine or purchase a new 32-bit machine. I really don't understand why autodesk could have given us a choice of installing the 32-bit on the 64-bit machine. I have been using my laptop since I upgrade to 2009.

there is no 64 bit of civil 3d 2009
its not autodesk problem that 3rd party plug ins don't work
its up to the developers of the plug in to update the plug in to support 64 bit Edited by: DarrenP on Sep 25, 2008 2:45 PM

I have not been able to get this workaround to work properly with Autocad 09. Has anyone had any success with this workround in the AutoCAD 2009 product line. My only other option is to figure out how to modify the ARX files of my 3rd party app so they will function in 64bit autocad, as it seems Eagle Point is getting out of the business and does not want to support current cad programs.

any idea where to even start with modifying it. It appears as though I need to modify only 1 or 2 arx files, but I dont have a clue where to start.

I got this to work just fine on 2009, but now that 2010 is out i cant seem to make it work. Anybody got this to work? If so what did you do differently from these instructions?
