Tool Palette updating...

Is there a way to refresh a tool palette? That is, if the master file from
which the tool palette references has tools added to its tool palette, can
the person working in a project that was created from that project template
somehow update their tool palette to reflect the new tools?

I hope that made sense...

Scott.

In the bottom left hand corner of the tool palette is a small button to refresh the tool palette from its source palette.

When the palette is expanded, the Properties button in the very bottom right hand corner (or just at the very bottom of the palette if it's not expanded); click that, and then click "Refresh Palette Set". I don't know why the refresh button isn't there. If you open up the Help menu and type "updating a tool palette", you'll get step-by-step instructions with pictures.

Was the tool palette in question i-dropped from a tool catalog in Content Browser? If so, was the "Link items when added to workspace" toggle in the tool catalog's properties checked at the time the palette was i-dropped? If not, the palette would not be refreshable and you would not get the refresh button.

In that case, you would need to i-drop the palette again (or manually idrop the added tools).

Forgive my igorance, but I'm not familiar with i-dropping...
What is it, how do I create its source and what is the procedure? If there's
a good tutorial link on it I'd love to check it out....

How did you get the tool palette you have into your workspace initially? Did you create it yourself, or did you bring it in through the Content Browser?

i-dropping is just a fancy name for the process of dragging and dropping a palette, package or tool from Content Browser into your drawing or local workspace. It can also be used to download content over the Internet. When you hover over the link in Content Browser, your cursor should change into a "empty eyedropper". When you left click and hold on the link, the eyedropper will "fill up" with the content, at which point you can drag the cursor over your drawing or over the tool palettes and drop.

If, as previously mentioned, the catalog from which the content was obtained is set to have its content remain linked, then you should get a refresh icon at the bottom of your tool palettes, on the corner away from the "spine".

Here's how I was instructed to create my 'master' tool palette:
1. Create a 'Master Project Template'...
2. Create a new drawing and call it MASTER STYLE.DWG. In this drawing I will
bring in all my wall styles, door styles, window styles, etc.
3. Create a new Tool Palette in my Master Project Template, based on my
Master Style.dwg. Then, whenever a new project is started using my master
project template, the tool palette comes along with it. But it doesn't get
updated.

From reading these posts, I'm gathering that what I needed to do was to
create a Tool Catalog Library from which a tool palette is made and linked.
Is that correct? If so, is there a way to create a catalog using the tool
palette I've already poured a bunch of time into? Or does this work some
other way?

Scott.
