Tool Palette Tool Order (Repost)

Trying this here, since there were no replies in arch-desktop. The best
method I can think of is to copy each tool on each palette in the order I
want them in, then delete the originals. I haven't tried this yet, though.
I'd rather have a method that takes a little less time. Original post

How do I get the tools on the palettes to retain the order that I put them
in? All is well until I switch to a different tool palette (by modifying my
"Tool Palettes File Locations" path in the Files tab in Options) and then
back. It seems to be placing them in the order they were created in,
instead of the position I had them in last.

I have made sure there is only 1 folder specified in my Tool Palettes File
Locations. I do not have a project open. My current user docs &
settings ----> ProjectCatalogs & ProjectProfiles folders are empty.

I would rather not go through the step of having to maintain a catalog in
Content Browser, though I tried that and it didn't seem to help anyway.

Any ideas?

sharing this with other machines and if you want to ensure order.

You cannot use "Tool Palette File locations" to achieve this as you will
run into race conditions as multiple machines read/write to the same ATC
files, which are text (XML) files. This location should be left as the
default.



To maintain the correct order for multiple machines, first arrange the
order inside the palette in AutoCAD Architecture (or ADT). Then make a
catalog in the content browser and drag that entire palette into it.
Publish that catalog to a shared location, then import it and the
palettes into the other computers to maintain order (drag and drop only
-- sorry).

When you wish to update the shared palette DO NOT delete the palette in
the content browser, rather delete ALL the tools, then select those same
tools (not the palette) in AutoCAD Architecture (or ADT). Drag and drop
them to the now (old) empty palette in the content browser. Ideally you
then publish that catalog to the shared location and sync the other
computers and the update should come in, in order.

I used this method as a CAD Manager and maintained consistent palettes
(35 or so palettes full of tools) for about 3 years. Yes, it's more work
than it appears it should be. But the feature is intended for someone to
manage, then publish to many machines. If you commit to a set of
palettes, and only change the tools, order is maintained
