State Plane Coordinates

We are a multi-discipline firm (A, S, M, E, P and C) Our civil department wants all disciplines to orient all drawings to the state plane coordinate system rather than putting the building at 0,0,0.

Does anyone out there use state plane or lats and longs rather than zero? My concern is half way into the project if the building needs to be moved and/or rotated (because of grading or such) then all the building disciplines will have to "fix" their drawings. This could involve a whole lot of drawings (constructs, views and sheets for 5 disciplines).

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I would tell your civil depeartment to go pound sand. Buildings do not need to
be based as such.

How often do you bring the entire building model into a site plan? And if you
do, would you not use Xrefs? And if so, would you not simply orient the building
as you need it to be on the site plan?

What if you want to reorient the building on the site? I mean, why force the
architecture group to revise their plans when it's the civil guys who would do
that?

Ah.

Again, tell 'em to pound sand.

I 100% agree with Matt! And actually, if you are using ADT/ACA for your
arch drawings, using state plane coordinates WILL seriously screw with your
dimensions and hatching and more!
