Stainless steel render material

Does anyone have any tips of making a good linished/brushed stainless steel render material? I tried using the advanced metal, but that doesn't seem to work at all. The texture maps supplied with ADT aren't any good either.
I can create a polished material no problems, it's the linished (brushed) finish I'm having trouble with.

Thanks in advance.

Suprisingly it's one of the more difficult materials to replicate. There is a texture map on page 5 in the downloads/textures section of the 3DS MAX site 'The Area' that might help.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I could only find a brushed aluminium in there, which wasn't so good.
I've used a realistic metal with a 70% reflection and added the smallest proceedural speckle bump map. Seems to work OK except on large areas. The advanced metal is a complete waste of time and doesn't appear to work on my system , even though the preview swatch looks right.

Attached is an image with stainless material mapped to the down pipes (which looks OK) and to the gutter (which doesn't look so good).

Looks very nice James, I assume there is no post processing though it looks
like there is. Has a hazy feel (arty) to it which looks real good. You
should be poting more in the gallery for us to be inspired by.

No, that's straight out of ACA2008, no additional software.

You're not still struggling with viz render, are you? 2008 has its....issues, but the internal render engine is OK.

No I'm still in ADT2006. I never moved to VR.
I have lots of library set up in the old landscape tools and it will take me
a bit to move up. 7 didn't help at all. I've got the free tool from RPC
but to be honest it's not as quick (& dirty) and flexible as the old
landscape tools. Unlike you I don't have wonderful achitecture to
illustrate so using plentiful vegetation is a must to make it look decent.
But I will move up eventually. Maybe 2009 has improved things???

Yes I was really annoyed when the landscape object was dropped because I too had spent many hours setting up trees and people. Adesk were quite indifferant about it when I complained and didn't seem to care about my opinion (I was managing a network of 200 ADT licenses at the time). They have now given us RPC support inside acad, but you have to buy the RPC objects and they REALLY slow rendering times.

You do know about the free RPC Creator available from their web site.
I have created several of my own RPC's from my own maps and they work well.
I just don't like not being able to grip size objects while I can see them
and being able to set a persons feet to the pavement like you can in shaded
view in the old system. How have you found the new RPC with position (as
one who also used the old system).

There are grip points on the RPC objects, so positioning them is not an issue.
