Speed up Regeneration Time

I've gone through the help file and found several methods to alter the regen times, but not ways to SPEED them up.

Anyone out there know how to do this?

For example: I switch from layout tab to layout tab and my regen time can be up to 30 seconds (I know, doesn't sound long, but it's killing me).

How do I speed this up??

Thanks to all that respond.

I will assume that your computer specs are fairly decent, and that
you're not doing heavy 3D modeling with a lot of materials.

The likely cause is a shortcut (or multiple shortcuts) that exists in
any of your Support File Search Path locations and point to a file or
location that doesn't exist. The usual culprits are "Add-A-Plotter
Wizard" and "Add-A-Plot Style Table Wizard."

30 seconds is unbearably slow. Of course, I remember the days of ADT1
and all building information in one file when a regen or switch from
Model to Paper Space (no tabs back then) would take 6 minutes...

Not a single 3d element. A few blocks, but that honestly shouldn't kill my speed to this level.

I'll check out my options and see if I'm missing anything.

Thanks

Did you find those shortcuts?

I'm not seeing any bad short cuts. And, to add to the regen list of slow downs: its when I open a drawing, when I switch tabs (model included), when I switch drawings.

Not sure what to modify to correct this issue.

look in options>systems tab>layout regen options....what is it set to? try
changing it to "regen when switching layouts" or "cache model tab and all
layouts"

ACA version? ANNOALLVISIBLE turned off, removing extra scalelists from the
file in ACA2008, PURGE regularly (you provide no details on your version),
quantities of little tiny viewports in each layout, amount of Xrefs, file
size (2D or otherwise, and ACA draws 3D all the time unless you only use it
to use LINE and Pline commands), and your PC specs not being to snuff are
the basics to check (again, you provide no details).

Shortcuts noted above, while great tips, have nothing to do with REGEN
speeds jumping between viewports or layouts. Nothing at all.

You also did not mention if this is an ongoing problem with all files, or
just today's file?

Autocad Architecture 2010
I do purge regularly.
Viewports-maximum of 5 per layout.
File sizes typically 2-3,000 kb
1 small xref
No 3d objects
Scalelist: typical 15 standard options.

PC specs are up to snuff.

This happens with any/all files opened.

Annoallvisible had no effect upon this problem.

Define up to snuff for the PC: RAM and OS (32bit or 64bit) and location of
your files (if server, connection speed and whether you are hooked up to a
switch or a hub): your files are smaller than ours, no 30-second delays
here.

Aargh! now the delay occurs when I modify blocks!! This is getting absurd!

XP pro service pack 3
Intel Xeon CPU 23520 @ 2.67 ghz
2.66 gig of ram

Anything? The more I try to find this problem, the more frustrating it becomes.

I've tried all three. None have any significant effect on this issue.

Well, technically not REGEN times, but viewport/layout switching times
can be drastically increased by bad shortcuts.

Anthony, as I'm not sure what the problem could be (as I have not experienced this before) any and all ideas are welcome.

Dean, man, in autocad, I've come across some strange lil setvars or checked/unchecked buttons that changed the working ability of the program that made no sense. So chief, if someone throws out an idea, don't be so harsh.

Still being bogged down, no cure in sight.

Became desperate and tried repairing, reinstalling even uninstalling and reinstalling.

No missing or bad shorts.

Delays occur: when switching between tabs, when plotting, when using layon after layiso, when updating blocks.

Any antivirus programs running? Some can cause issues if they were
running at the time of installation. Do you get a delay when switching
viewports (staying on the same tab)?
