Sliding Barn Doors

I'm looking for two door styles for barn doors...the kind that hang & slide on the exterior of a building...I need a single door version as well as a double version. Anyone have anything?

Thanks,

Scott

Check out Archidigm.com. There is a whole series of barn doors in the Garage E-kit

The way I create them is thru a multi-step process:

Create a cased opening the size of the frame and insert into wall.

Insert a double pocket door (or single) and insert onto the cased opening. Yeah, you can do that.

RIght click double door and edit door style. Change frame to 0" width and depth. Click on door, click on door center, hit control to toggle 'move within opening' and move door to interior (or exterior) of wall.

Make a dotted polyline for the overhead track.

Voila....

It's tedious, but it seems to work.

Hope this helps.

Run that by me again!!!  Insert a cased opening, got that.  Now insert a double pocket door into the cased opening, don't get that.

How have you created the cased opening?  Is it a DWA or from the content browser?

I'm always looking for new ideas to make doors etc.. so would love to get this working.  I'm still after a decent concertina door tool but won't hold my breath.

Many thanks

Ben

Here is a 36" barn door w/ track and casters that I created.  Haven't had a need for any other size yet but I'll cross that bridge at some point!  If you mirror and make it double, the plan and isometric representations still look good.

Hope it helps,
Todd

I would like to add on to this request to Autodesk.  The block made by Todd above is helpful, but unfortunately if you are looking for a size other than 36" in width, it does not adjust the door panel.  It would be nice to have a more simplified model as well that looks consistent with other premade AutoCAD doors.

Here's one I've been using for a few years.  After inserting you do need to reposition it within the wall 1/2 the width of the wall + 7/8".  Other than that, though, the jambs adjust themselves to the width of the wall and the size of the opening and the door adjusts in width and height.  And it looks right in elevation, model, and plan views.  I guess the one other drawback is the overlapping jambs but maybe someone else can solve that. 😉 It doesn't really bother me.  If you find it useable then enjoy.

We just had an office project that required several sliding barn doors and we needed to be able to add a door tag and schedule these doors.  With lots of trail and error, I was able to modify a pocket door style to create a functioning slidng barn door.  I have attached the sliding barn door that was created.  I works for our needs.

this method will not generate a correct door schedule

the solutions for double doors do not work

I like it & want to use it, but the rod length is, I'm sure you know, the problem. Is there a way to make it adjustable with the size of the door?

came across this post and have a question.  The door works great with a 4" wall.  But if the wall is thicker, the panels overlap the wall.  Is there a way to fix this?
