Slab surface hatch in plan view?

I was wondering how to get the surface hatch in a slab to show up in plan.
I've got a floor slab that has terra cotta tile and in any of the isometric
views (soutwest, southeast, etc.) the surface hatch shows up. But I can't
make it show up in plan. I've looked at the display properties in the slab
style and there are no surface hatch options. There are in the material
definition and they work fine in the isometric views, but not plan view.
