Ribbon Tabs

So...

Looks as if this is a follow up to an earlier post by Pedro; Started up ACA
2009 this morning after no problems yesterday and BOOM!!!:
"This Ribbon does not have any tabs or panels currently loaded."
It was there yesterday until I quit ACA, where did it go?

Did Autodesk install a virus that deletes the Ribbon after a predefined
number of uses? It doesn't make any difference which workspace is invoked it
is not there. In Document it is just completely gone and typing ribbon at
the command line brings up the "This Ribbon..." as is the case in all the
other workspaces. How does this happen? Can it be fixed without 2 lost days?
Will it happen again? Are there any know conflicts with virus software? WTH?

Hi Randy

That's exactly what happened to me.
Running a "repair" didn't fix it, so I tried a "reinstall". Same thing.
Then I asked for Subscription Help. They gave me a solution, but I didn't
try it, because it was too much complex and risky, so I did uninstall and
install ACA2009 again.
Now everything seems to be working fine, except the Communication Center.
I'm using AVG anti-virus and Vista Home Premium.

The key to this is:

"...Started up ACA 2009 this morning after no problems yesterday and
BOOM!!!:..."

Daily complete backups of your system can reveal changes from yesterday, and
allow a restore too.

A Windows or Autodesk type uninstall never resolves much: if you are going
to uninstall any application, you must do it thoroughly using a tool like
REVO UNINSTALLER (which is freeware) using it's most complete options.
Backup customizations first.

I forgot to mention that using the restore system to a previous point (two
days before) was my first idea, but it didn't work . I did try an older
date, but the result was the same.

Well, I tried something that hasn't worked for anyone but I did a repair and
it fixed it. Ribbons were back and all my palettes were docked right where I
had left them. So it would appear that there various causes for a common
problem.

Thanks to all for their responses. Pedro sorry you continue to have
problems. Dean I will track down where our IS department keeps our daily
backups.

By the way our organization uses Symantec for virus protection. I know from
my home system (Windows XP Media) that Symantec has had issues with messing
up the registry. In ADT 2006 Symantec/Norton would take out the Properties
Palette. I contacted Norton and they responded it was a known issue. I
haven't yet tried to track down any issues with ACA 2009.

That's right. I had the same problem with Symantec/Norton.

You can use Norton, just don't ever let it scan and "repair" the registry.
Turn that feature off. Since I did that, I've never had any more of these
types of issues.

Backup, not restore point.

This has happened to me several times in 2012 version.  Type in "RIBBON" in the command line and it should restore your tabs.

I am a new user of ACA 2013.  i HAVE JUST STARTED A TUTORIAL, "... NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED".

YESTERDAY I LOST THE COMMAND LINE, THE TABS AND THE RIBBON.

HOW CAN I GET THEM BACK.

Hi Bob,

The easiest way to restore ACA is from Windows start menu, under All Programs->Autodesk->Version Folder, select Reset Settings to Default. Warning, any customization you did will be lost.

For the future please start a new thread with your issue, instead of piggybacking on old threads.
