When you "locks up on the second point", do you mean the entire application? or is it the command? Are you able to exit out of the command?

if the entire application locks up I would try a repair of it from the control panel.

Windows XP/Vista
1. On the Start menu (Windows), select Settings > Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, select AutoCAD Architecture 2013and click Change.
4. Select Reinstall or Repair AutoCAD Architecture 2013.
5. Select Repair errors in my AutoCAD Architecture 2013installation.
6. Click Next and follow the instructions to complete the repair.
7. After the repair is complete, reboot your computer.

Windows7
1.  On the Start button , select Control Panel
2.  In Control Panel, click on Programs
3.  In the next window click on Programs and Features
4.  Double click the application you wish to repair
5.  Once the dialog box for the application appears, select Repair or Reinstall.
6.  Select Repair errors in my 2013installation.
7.  Click Next and follow the instructions to complete the repair.
8.  After the repair is complete, reboot your computer.

There is a system variable that controls the width of plines....PLINEWID...make sure this is set to 0 and there will be no width to them unless you change it.
