Osnap problems

I have the "Allow general object snap settings to act upon wall
justification Line." unchecked, but if I try to stretch a structural member
perpendicular to another, it want to snap to the insertion point. Why?

from my post in wishes

"Can you please fix this up in 09. Not sure if it works in 10.

If you layerisolate an ACA object that has ByMaterial selected, and the
ByMaterial has the material layer for 3D display as 0, then you can no
longer snap to the
object.
Not sure what other moves must be made for the osnaps to stop working,
possibly a regen or redraw.
To resolve requires you to change the material layer to the same as the
object (so it's not off) which is NOT desirable.
In order to use LayerIsolate, you must turn layer 0 back on and regenall to
get the snaps to work again.
This was not a problem in ADT6."

This is repeatable for me consistently and I am surprised that it doesn't
bother anyone else.
I gather it happened when programming changes were made to the layer isolate
tool
(Can I have the old tool back please).

That doesn't seem to be my problem. If I stretch a structural element to
another and want to osnap to the opposite side of an other structural
object, case in point, two rim joist, then they osnap to the insertion
point.

Is it something to do with how structural elements join (cleanup?)
I don't use them often enough to understand what's happening but I know that
beams & connections become 'connected'. Maybe there are some rules to learn
that would help you?

I really don't think so. I should be able to Osnap to the inside endpoint
of a Rim Joist instead of it automatically snapping to the outside or the
insertion point of the perpendicular Rim Joist.

Nick - when you hover over the grip, do you get a tooltip with different
"Ctrl" modes? You may be seeing some automatic connection behavior.
Although I've tried to duplicate this problem and haven't been able to. If
the beam you're modifying is not connected already, the "Ctrl" state
shouldn't matter. Can you post a simple drawing that demonstrates what
you're trying to do?

Thanks,
