Hatch behavior with Text

In Autocad Arch 2013, is there some parameter or option that will turn off the default behavior of dropping out part of the hatch or color, around a peice of text?  In other words I don't what the white space that forms around a text object when I apply a hatch or color region.  Thanks.

The system variables that will ignore 'islands' during hatch creation are HPISLANDDETECTION and HPISLANDDETECTIONMODE. The link is to 2012 help, since I hate navigating the new 2013 help. They will also ignore any other 'island' so be careful. Also while creating the hatch unselect the text item, or after the hatch is created use the 'remove boundary' features.
