Guard rail with posts that extend up to support a roof.

I am running 2011 ACA.

I have used the standard railing style to create the railing shown in the attachment.

I would like to know what's the best way to add posts to support the shed roof and the overhaning roof? Do I do this manually using the colum tool? The problem is that there isn't always a post under it once I set it on the guardrail.

Is there a railing style that I can set fixed post distances to support the roof then add posts for my railing/guardrail support?

Thanks

I think that you should model it as it would be built.  First put in structural columns that start at the slab and go to the roof (or a cross beam).  Then install individual rail pieces between the columns.
