Google SketchUp question

I have a simple line drawing of some space done in AutoCAD. Is there a way
that I can transfer that line 2D Floor Plan to SketchUp so I could work the
3D in SketchUp? (Or just, underlay it under so I could build the simple 3D
from what I see underneath?)

I tried to copy and paste, but it did not work, and also "import", but it
did not work neither (Just learning now SketchUp, so I am not very
knowledgeable yet).

Tahnks.

Are you using the purchased version, or the freebie?
2D Architecture floor plan, or just plain LINE command type entities?

I am just using the free download of SketchUp. It is only recently that I
began to discover it.
The AutoCAD plan drawing is just a line plan, plain AutoCAD, with doors,
etc. I wonder if I can transfer the line work to scale so I could reuse the
plan in SketchUp.

The freebie is quite limited in what it can import correctly. Explore the
online help for the freebie in more depth, it should cover what you can and
cannot import.

Also, try the training material:

Dean, Thanks for your information. Which one is the Newsgroup that I can
put here in Windows Live Mail (like I have the AutoCAD Newsgroups) to ask
questions from SketchUP?

I don't know if there is a news-reader forum, but the web-based on is at

it's possible, but you need to download the 'extra special' plugin for Sketchup. The DWG import function has been removed, but they have left one last chance to use this plugin with the current version of Sketchup (free).

I suggest that after installing the plugin (just google it to find it), don't update Sketchup, ahem, ever again. Unless you buy the full blown package.

when i bring something into sketchup, i export my file in an older version. delete all unnecessary entities, explode it to hell. purge it, audit it, then export it to a 2000 version. I usually can then bring in anything to sketch up. There are many entities sketchup doesn't import. Text for example.
